Buying the Game

While Guild Wars 2 is available to play for free simply by signing up for an account, buying the game unlocks a multitude of features and benefits to aid in your travels through Tyria. When you decide to upgrade your account, there are three places where you can pick up the game:

If you pick up a digital or physical copy of the game, you will receive a serial key that you can redeem on your account management page—either as an email or as a physical code inside your game box. More information about how to redeem your game serial code and upgrade your account can be found in this article.

Please note: The only way to upgrade your Guild Wars 2 Steam account with a new expansion is to purchase the expansion directly from Steam (within your Steam account).

The Guild Wars 2 Collector's Edition

The Guild Wars 2 Collector’s Edition was produced in very limited supply, and was distributed to specific retailers worldwide. While it may be difficult to find the physical Collector’s Edition, you can also purchase the Digital Deluxe version of the game, available here. This includes all of the special in-game features included in the Collector’s Edition, but does not provide the game box or any physical items.

Frequently Asked Questions

I purchased a digital edition of the game but lost my serial code. What can I do?

In most cases, you won’t need your serial code once it’s been used to unlock the game. That said, we highly recommend storing or saving your serial code in a safe place, since it can be used as a unique identifier that will help you verify ownership of your account if something ever happens to it.

Unfortunately, support will not be able to provide this information if you misplace your code. This is to ensure the security of your account, since malicious parties will often try to obtain the code in an effort to establish “ownership” of your account. With that in mind, if you cannot find your serial code, there are other identifying details you can provide to help our support team verify ownership of your account. This includes:

  • The full name on the account
  • Your date of birth
  • The phone number used on the account
  • The last four digits of the credit card on the account

Include as much information as possible in a support ticket and we’ll do our best to help you!

I purchased Guild Wars 2 from but never got my Serial Code or confirmation email. What do I do next?

If you registered your Guild Wars 2 game account right after purchasing the game or upgraded your account from within the game, you don’t need your confirmation email or serial code to begin playing right away. As long as you remember your account credentials, you’re good to go!

If you do not remember your account credentials, please submit a support request that includes the following information:

  • The email address you believe was used to register the account.
  • The zip code associated with your method of payment.

We also ask that you include information about the payment method used to purchase the game:

  • If you used a credit or debit card, please include:
    • The last four digits of the card you used.
    • The full name on the card.
    • The date of the purchase.
  • If you used a Paypal® account, please include:
    • The account email.
    • Whether it is a verified or unverified account.
    • The country where the PayPal account was created.
    • The Invoice ID of the transaction—obtained from your PayPal payment history.
