While Guild Wars 2 is available to play for free simply by signing up for an account, buying the game unlocks a multitude of features and benefits to aid in your travels through Tyria. When you decide to upgrade your account, there are three places where you can pick up the game:
- Pick up a digital copy at buy.guildwars2.com.
- Find a physical copy at an authorized retailer.
- Upgrade your account in-game using the Black Lion Trading Company.
If you pick up a digital or physical copy of the game, you will receive a serial key that you can redeem on your account management page—either as an email or as a physical code inside your game box. Please note: The only way to upgrade your Guild Wars 2 Steam account with a new expansion is to purchase the expansion directly from Steam (within your Steam account).
The Guild Wars 2 Collector's Edition
The Guild Wars 2 Collector’s Edition was produced in very limited supply, and was distributed to specific retailers worldwide. While it may be difficult to find the physical Collector’s Edition, you can also purchase the Digital Deluxe version of the game, available here. This includes all of the special in-game features included in the Collector’s Edition, but does not provide the game box or any physical items.

Unfortunately, support will not be able to provide this information if you misplace your code. This is to ensure the security of your account, since malicious parties will often try to obtain the code in an effort to establish “ownership” of your account. With that in mind, if you cannot find your serial code, there are other identifying details you can provide to help our support team verify ownership of your account. This includes:
- The full name on the account
- Your date of birth
- The phone number used on the account
- The last four digits of the credit card on the account
