Guild Wars 2 offers the ability to change your character name by purchasing a Name Change Contract.
The Name Change Contract is a single-use item that allows you to change the name of any one character on your account to another unused name. This allows you to maintain all of your progress, unlocks, and hours played on a character while adjusting the name they use to identify with the world.
You can pick up a Name Change Contract in the Upgrades category of the Black Lion Trading Company for 800 Gems.
NOTE: Support is unable to override any naming restrictions that are in place.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I change my character name?

- Open the Black Lion Trading Company. The default keybind is [O].
- Navigate to the Upgrades category.
- Click on the gem amount to complete your purchase.
How do I use the Name Change Contract?
While the contract is in the inventory of the character whose name you want to change, follow these instructions:
- Double click the Name Change Contract.
- Enter your new chosen name.
- Make sure it meets all of the naming requirements.
- Click "Change Name."
NOTE: The name you choose must conform to the Guild Wars 2 Naming Policy.
What happens to my former character name?
After a character name is changed with the Name Change Contract, the previous name remains reserved on your account for 24 hours. That means that if you change a character name, you may use the original name to create a new character on the same account within 24 hours.
Alternately, you can also use multiple separate Name Change Contracts to swap names between two or more characters on your account, as long as you do so within 24 hours.
Can I give my Name Change Contract to someone else?
No. Name Change Contracts are account bound. It can be used on any character on the account (until consumed), but cannot be given, sold, or traded to another account.
I misspelled my name. Can I get a replacement contract?
The verification built into the name-change process should prevent this issue from happening, but in the event you need a name change, simply purchase a new Name Change Contract and rename your character.
What happens if my new character name is censored?
All character names must observe the Guild Wars 2 Naming Policy in both naming and renaming a character. If a changed name is in breach of the policy, it will be censored and you will be forced to rename the character. If the next name is still in breach of the Naming Policy, further action—including account suspension and renaming of the character by a CS Agent—may take place.
Can I change my Display Name?
The Name Change Contract only applies to character names on an account, and does not alter the account Display Name in any way. At present, we do not offer Display Name changes.
Why can't I delete my character?
Sometimes, players include a space at the beginning, or end, of their character's name, or they believe the first letter in their character's name is a lowercase "L" rather than an upper case "i". Please verify this before contacting Customer Support for additional help.
